Picture 2 shows the old line shaft lift pumps. These pumps transfer the river water to the surrounding reservoirs to the west of London. As part of the upgrade works at Chertsey Water Treatment Works these river extract pumps had to be removed and replaced with larger more efficient pump sets.
To facilitate the installation of the much higher capacity Bedford Canister submersible Pumps, the old support steelwork, pumps and grating had to be removed.
CovElec designed the sub floor level support frames, build the NRV (non return valves) and gate valve skids before installing the Canister pumps complete with the valve gear. Once installed the pumps were tested and commissioned. The client’s maintenance and process engineering teams were trained by CovElec in the safe method of removing the pumps for maintenance.
