Covelec and Walkers Midshire Foods team up to support engineering apprentices

CovElec, the Midlands-based motor, gearbox, and pump maintenance provider, unites with Walkers Midshire Foods, a part of the Samworth Brothers group, a leading food manufacturer, to offer their engineering apprentices a hands-on experience as part of their training programme.

As a first-choice engineering partner to the premium meat producer, it is a privilege to be entrusted to support the education of their apprentices. At Covelec, we take this responsibility very seriously and aim to provide an enriching experience for everyone involved.

We understand that apprentices are the future of our industry, and we are committed to equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. When a customer allows their apprentices to learn at our workshop, we see it as an opportunity to not only train the next generation but also to build a relationship with our customers.

Our workshops are well-equipped, making it an ideal learning environment. Our experienced engineers are passionate about what they do and are always happy to share their knowledge with apprentices. We ensure that each apprentice gets hands-on experience and personalised attention so they can develop their skills and confidence.

We believe that learning should be a collaborative effort, and we encourage the apprentices to ask questions and engage with our engineering team. By doing so, they not only gain a deeper understanding of the engineering services we offer but also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The UK is currently facing a shortage of engineers, a situation that has been ongoing for several years. This shortage has been attributed to a range of factors, including a lack of investment in education and training, an aging workforce, and a lack of diversity in the engineering field.

The UK engineering sector is one of the most important industries in the country, contributing significantly to the economy. However, the shortage of engineers threatens to undermine the growth and development of the sector, as well as the wider economy. By working with the Samworth Brother group who also actively support and encourage new talent into the industry we aim to bring more awareness and opportunities.
